Motivation

Getting motivated is an ongoing problem for some people. They spend a lot of time in the "Thinking" and "Procrastination" stages and find it hard to move into the "Action" stage. Unfortunately you can have many thoughts and ideas but unless you do something about them then nothing will happen. Sounds obvious I know but many people wait around hoping something will happen to them in order for their dreams to become reality. Life coaching is a great way to get motivated and achieve those things you may have been trying to reach for the last year. In the meantime here are some top tips to help you get into the Action stage and started on your journey to achievement: -

  1. What are your goals? If you haven't actually spent any time in the Thinking and Procrastination stages then do this now, as you need to know what you are striving for, i.e. define what your goals are and when you want to achieve them by. If you know what you want write down your goals and target dates on a piece of paper now! It might be that you have a mixture of long term and short-term goals. Start with the short term goals and make sure they lead to your eventual long-term goal. It's important to have these short-term goals as it makes your eventual goal feel more achievable. Better to take incremental steps than none at all.
  2. What actions do you need to take? You can read as many "how to tips" and self help books about how to get started on something but unless you do actually take that action nothing will happen. Make an agreement with yourself now to start taking action. Decide what actions you need to take in order to achieve the short term and long term goals you have just defined. The trick is to write a completion date next to each action so you ensure you do it.
  3. Write down why you want to achieve these goals. This is a great way to remind yourself why you need to do this. Also, define if you don't achieve this, what will be the consequences for the rest of your life?
  4. Decide what skills you have already to achieve your goals and if there is something you'll need to work on confront it and figure out how you will do this and add this to your list of actions. This is about challenging your fears head on. Fears can be a huge barrier to achieving your goals so if we get them out in the open and tackle them now they shouldn't bother us as much.
  5. Each time you complete your actions in one week then give yourself a small reward. Don't look to other people to reinforce you and encourage you. This is something you need to do yourself.
  6. Create a mantra for yourself that you repeat every morning to yourself in the mirror. It could be something like "I am taking action to achieve my dreams"
